SOLGEN Hosts Exciting Halloween Party for Students

The School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN), in collaboration with the Solgen International Club, hosted the SOLGEN HALLOWEEN PARTY on Friday, October 27, 2023. The event aimed to share knowledge about international cultures and enhance English communication skills. Over 50 students from Walailak University, including both Thai and international students, as well as lecturer and staff from the School, participated in the festivities, all dressed in their Halloween costumes. The party featured a variety of activities such as the Ghost’s Speech Competition, the Horror Movie Guessing Game, the Whispering Game, and the Halloween After Party. These activities gave students a great chance to practice their English skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and presenting while chatting with teachers and international students.

SOLGEN organized the event "GE: Why Should You Engage in Activities During Your Studies?"

The Department of General Education, School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) hosted a discussion on the topic, “GE: Why Should You Engage in Activities During Your Studies?” This event, led by experienced activists, explored the benefits of participating in activities at Walailak University, including achieving excellent grades and engaging in meaningful experiences. The discussion also covered practical tips for balancing student life, such as time management, planning, and selecting suitable activities. The session was moderated by Dr. Panyupa Thamwat and took place online via Zoom Meeting and Facebook Live on Friday, October 6, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and over 1,100 students attended the event.

SOLGEN Hosts 2nd Volunteer Activity: Seniors Teach English to Juniors

The School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) recently organized its 2nd volunteer activity, ‘Seniors Teach English to Juniors,’ held on 18 to 19 September, 2023, at Ban Pak Duad School in Klai Subdistrict, Thasala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat. This activity aims to enhance English learning for students in smaller schools within the province and help bridge the educational gap between smaller and larger institutions. During the event, 25 volunteer students from SOLGEN designed engaging and interactive English learning activities, ensuring that students could enjoy and benefit from their lessons. Along with helping students learn English, the volunteer students also improved their teaching skills, teamwork, and sense of volunteering. This supports the university’s goal of creating graduates who are knowledgeable, ethical, and ready to make a positive impact on society.

Tutoring Activities of General Education Courses 1/2023

General Education Department Organized tutoring activities of term 1/2023 for students studying in general education courses. In online tutoring before the midterm exam during 17 – 19 July 2023 and before the final exam during 30 August – 6 September 2023 via the Facebook page “SOLGEN ติวต่อเติมแต้ม” for all 6 subjects as follows:

1. Thai for Contemporary Communication
2. Communication Techniques in Contemporary World
3. Philosophy, Ethics and Critical Thinking
4. Knowledge Inquiry and Research Methods
5. Environmental Conservation and Global Warming
6. Innovation and Entrepreneurship

There were students attending the tutoring activities. Total of more than 2,000 students in all subjects and the satisfaction assessment of students in the tutoring was very good. (Evaluation score is more than 4.67)

Collaboration of Community, Government, and Private Sector to Study the History of Krung Ching Community

On Saturday, September 2, 2023, and Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Krung Ching Homestay, Ban Krung Ching, Nopphitam District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, the research team of the “Community-Engaged Narrative History Study Project Krung Ching area,” consisting of Asst. Prof. Dr. Vithaya Arporn, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arong Chieplam from the School of Management, and Dr. Sajjari Sirichai from the School of Information Science, along with local researchers, totaling 8 individuals, were supported by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). They jointly organized a practical workshop on “The Importance, Concepts, and Methods of Creating Community History in Krung Ching.”
The special speakers from Lek-Praipanya Foundation were Prof. Srisak Wallopodom and Dr. Apaphat Wallopodom. There were 65 participants in the training program, including local residents from Ban Krung Ching, teachers from four schools in Ban Krung Ching, staff from Khao Nan and Khao Luang National Parks, local administrative organization officers from Ban Krung Ching, tourism entrepreneurs and private businesses in Ban Krung Ching, youth networks from Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, NRCT officers, individuals interested in studying community history from Surat Thani, Phang Nga, and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces, as well as general enthusiasts. Tourists interested in Krung Ching and aware of the news were also invited to participate in the training program.
As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that the study of community history in Krung Ching would be conducted collaboratively. The next meeting was scheduled for October 21, 2023, at Wat Bo Nam Ron, Ban Krung Ching Subdistrict. In this meeting, they would discuss framing questions, guidelines for data collection, and the establishment of a data center, among other topics.

SOLGEN organized a workshop on professional resume writing techniques

16 August 2023 the School of Language and General Education (SOLGEN) collaborated with SOLGEN Student Club, they conducted a hands-on professional resume writing workshop to enhance students’ skills in creating accurate and suitable resumes, preparing them for future job applications
In this training, students will learn the importance, formats, and components of a resume, as well as critical details to be mindful of, such as using imagery, language, and paper layout. They will also learn how to select content that highlights their strengths and aligns with the desired job position to create a strong resume. Additionally, they will practice writing their own resumes. At the end of the training, students will have drafted a personalized resume to further develop for future job applications.

SOLGEN organized a camp for natural resource and environmental conservation for term 1/2023

General Education, School of Languages and General Education, subject GED65-147, organized a camp for the conservation of natural resources and the environment. By bringing 58 students to participate in a camping project for the conservation of natural resources and the environment. which is part of the course evaluation measurement The activity was organized at the community forest “Ao Ai Yo”, Namtok Subdistrict, Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province on 19-20 August 2023, with the location courtesy of the Nam Tok Subdistrict Administrative Organization and a group of lecturers conducting various activities in the camp from the Border Patrol Police Division 42, Thung Song District. The students did activities at Important is to join with the community to help repair the irrigation weir with the community forest committee and to study nature trails by hiking. Study the ecosystem and various medicinal plants in the rainforest of “Ao Ai Yo” forest, which still maintains the richness of the forest very well.

The activity focuses on allowing students to learn to live and live outdoors together as a group to practice patience and hardship amidst the global warming crisis from the environment being destroyed. SOLGEN lecturers lead team the research to provide knowledge to the community

On August 25, 2023, Asst. Prof. Jenjira Kaewrat and Asst. Prof. Dr. Rungruang Janta collaborated with the local fishing community of Baan Pak Pa Ya for a campaign. The campaign included two activities: “The training program to enhance the community’s capacity in managing local tourism at Pak Phaya Village” and “The activity providing knowledge about leeches and exploring leeches in the mangrove forest area”. These activities took place at the Local Fisheries Learning Center in Baan Pak Pa Ya, Nakorn Sri Thammarat province.
This campaign was conducted as part of the Plant Genetic Conservation Project 2023. Over 20 participants, including village leaders and group leaders, took part in the training sessions to enhance community activities for the future.

SOLGEN lecturers organized a meeting and conveyed information on increasing the potential of nutmeg utilization in conjunction with nutmeg genetic conservation.

Assistant Professor Doctor Laksanara Khwanchum and Assistant Professor Doctor Chawinpat Srisongkram Pimjan, lecturers of the School of Languages and General Education organized a meeting and conveyed information about increasing the potential of nutmeg’s use and conserving its genetics. On August 9, 2023, at the meeting room of Ron Phibun Municipality, Ron Phibun District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, with a speaker who is an expert on nutmeg medicinal recipes, namely Pharmacist Panaran Phonpakdee, there were 40 people interested in attending the event. The speaker described the properties and benefits of nutmeg in 100 traditional medicine recipes. There would be nutmeg in up to 70 recipes, such as a medicine for digestive problems, pain reliever, blood tonic for women, aromatic medicine, medicine for treating cancer, etc. They were organizing a meeting to share knowledge about nutmeg’s benefits and medicinal properties, making villagers aware of conservation and campaigning to plant more nutmeg trees, which will benefit the ecosystem. Having sustainable forest resources and replacing those that have been destroyed has an overall long-term and sustainable impact on the environment and our planet.

SOLGEN researcher went to Krung Ching for historical study preparation

Walailak University has conducted a field survey to explore ways to study the local history with community participation at Krung Ching area. It was found that the community has potential in various aspects. Meanwhile, residents also reflected on the challenges they are facing. Plans are underway to proceed to the next stage of implementation.
Between July 28th and 29th, 2023, the research team of the project present the narrative history of the Krung Ching area with community involvement, supported by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT),
The research team consists of Asst. Prof. Vithaya Arporn and Pagornsit Thana from the School of Language and General Education, Asst. Prof. Onanong Cheablam School of Management, Walailak University and Dr. Satjaree Sirichai, School of Informatics along with students, they have collective basic fieldwork in Krung Ching Subdistrict, Nopphitam District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
On 28 th July research team had discussed with Krung Ching residents at the Madyom Pao Awat Village about general situation, potential and problems including aspects related to livelihoods, socio-cultural conditions, tourism, and several ongoing transformations. Afterward villager led research team to survey Khao Luang national park and the Khun Klang cave.
