SOLGEN hosted a practical workshop titled "Performance Art for Learning and Self-Understanding"

The General Education Department, under the School of Languages and General Educations, hosted a practical workshop titled “”Performance Art for Learning and Self-Understanding”” on Sunday, 6 July 2025, at the Chatterbox Café in Academic Building 6, Walailak University. The workshop aimed to foster creativity and communication skills through expressive performance arts while encouraging participants to practice self-reflection and understanding via theatrical activities.

During the session, students had the opportunity to explore and reflect on their identities, thoughts, and emotions through engaging and meaningful performance exercises. They also created simple dramatic performances that narrated personal life stories, demonstrating that theater, even without prior experience, can serve as a powerful tool for self-discovery and authentic expression.

A total of 30 students participated, with overwhelmingly positive feedback praising the workshop’s innovative and transformative approach to self-development. The School expressed hope that this event would inspire students to apply their newfound insights in daily life, broadening their perspectives on understanding themselves and others.

SOLGEN attended a ceremony to offer blessings on the occasion of the birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana

On the morning of 4 July 2025, faculty members from the School of Languages and General Education attended a ceremony to offer blessings on the occasion of the birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana

The event was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pragasit Sitthitikul, Acting Dean of the School, along with administrators, faculty, and staff. Participants expressed their deep gratitude and loyalty through the ceremonial blessings, honoring Her Royal Highness’s enduring contributions.

Earlier that morning, a merit-making alms-giving ceremony was also held for Buddhist monks at the Thaiburi Building courtyard, Walailak University, fostering a sense of unity and spiritual reflection among attendees.

SOLGEN organized a training workshop titled "General Education for a Changing World: The 21st Century Skills Mapping and the Power of Inquiry-Based Learning (2nd Session)

       The General Education Department, under the School of Languages and General Education, organized a training workshop titled “General Education for a Changing World: The 21st Century Skills Mapping and the Power of Inquiry-Based Learning (2nd Session)” for instructors teaching general education courses. The event took place on 21-22 June 2025, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, at the Conference Room in Academic Building 6, Walailak University.
       The workshop featured esteemed guest speakers from Srinakharinwirot University, including:
       1. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanita Lerdpornkulrat, Vice President for Student Affairs
       2. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanut Poondej, Director of the Innovative Learning Center
       3. Dr. Ronnayut Ueatrirat, Faculty Member
       The speakers conducted lectures and training sessions for 30 participating faculty members, focusing on assessment techniques for generic skills, guidance for first-year student mentoring, and application of AI tools to enhance teaching. The training also covered critical digital competencies: Digital Literacy, Digital Fluency, and Digital Transformation, preparing educators to adapt to the evolving educational landscape where AI plays a pivotal role in modern student learning. The workshop aimed to equip instructors with innovative strategies to navigate the evolving educational landscape, ensuring effective teaching in the digital age.

SOLGEN joins in introducing Walailak University’s Teaching for Global Citizenship during the 2025 Freshman Orientation Project

On June 8, 2025, The School of Languages and General Education, in collaboration with the The Center for Learning and Teaching Excellence, organized the activity “Introducing Teaching and Learning at Walailak University for Global Citizenship” under the Orientation Project for New Students 2025.
The event included the following activities:
1. Assistant to the President, Asst.Prof.Dr. Suthanya Doung-In, gave a lecture on the topic of Teaching and Learning according to the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) to help students understand and effectively plan their studies at Walailak University.
2. Advisor to the President, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pragasit Sitthitikul, gave a lecture on English Language Teaching and Learning at Walailak University.
3. Panel Discussion from senior students and international lecturers: Learning English at Walailak: Students and Teachers reflections.
4. Introduction of GE courses from the Languages and General Education Department by lecturers in the Department.
The atmosphere of the event was fun and received good cooperation from first-year students. The students received an evaluation score of 82.6 (the highest).

Representatives from the SOLGEN participated in the ceremony to present royal offerings and floral tributes, as well as the blessing ceremony, on the occasion of the birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Kannika Thongkhao, Aj. Suthira Thongkao, and Aj. Piyanut Khunsawat, lecturers from the School of Languages and General Education, together with representatives from the School of Pharmacy, the Planning and Strategy Division, and the School of Medicine, represented Walailak University in the blessing ceremony for Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana on the occasion of Her Majesty’s birthday, 3 June 2025, at Sanam Na Mueang, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The ceremony was attended by heads of government agencies, representatives from public and private sectors, students, merchants, and citizens from all walks of life in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Presiding over the ceremony was Mr. Somchai Leelanoy, Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat, who lit the candles, offered blessings, and delivered the praise speech.


On this auspicious occasion, Dr. Mongkol Teerananond, Vice President of Walailak University, on behalf of the University, presented the golden and silver floral trays. The School of Languages and General Education, Walailak University, humbly extended its blessings for Her Majesty’s good health and long reign.

       The General Education Department, under the School of Languages and General Education, organized a training workshop titled “General Education for a Changing World: The 21st Century Skills Mapping and the Power of Inquiry-Based Learning (1st Session)” for instructors teaching general education courses. The event took place on 24 May 2025, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, at the Conference Room in Academic Building 6, Walailak University.
       The workshop featured esteemed guest speakers from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, including:
       1. Ajan Panalert sirivongse, Deputy Dean of Educational and Learning Development
       2. MR. Kraisila kanont, Assistant Dean of Educational and Learning Development
       3. Ms. Rasita raksakul, Education Development Officer
       The speakers conducted lectures and training sessions for 33 participating faculty members, focusing on Inquiry- Based Learning (IBL),  enabling them to apply this knowledge effectively in questioning techniques, classroom management, activity design, and assessment.

Pre-English Course Orientation: Building Readiness for First-Year Students

11 May 2025 – The School of Languages and General Education, in collaboration with the Division of Student Development and Promotion, organized an orientation session to foster understanding and readiness among first-year students participating in the Pre-English Course, a 20-day intensive English foundation program.

The event was honored by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Charun Bunyakan, Vice President and Chair of the Pre-English Course Committee, who delivered a warm welcome address to the new students.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President and Dean of the School of Languages and General Education, outlined Walailak University’s English language education policy and emphasized the purpose and significance of the Pre-English Course in supporting students’ academic success.

Foreign lecturers and the academic teaching team joined in facilitating activities and co-planning learning strategies with students, ensuring that they are well-prepared and confident for their English studies.

The orientation was conducted in two vibrant sessions—morning and afternoon—with 1,500 students participating in each round, totaling 3,000 students. The event featured engaging activities designed to promote English learning through interaction, participation, and fun, with enthusiastic cooperation from all attendees.

SOLGEN participated in an academic exchange with Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP)

9 May 2025 – UniMAP Engagement
        The School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) and the School of Informatics from Walailak University had a joint academic engagement with Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).
        The day began with a breakfast session where each institution shared insights about their programs, academic goals, and areas of expertise. This was followed by separate group discussions tailored to each school’s discipline.
        SOLGEN met with representatives from the Faculty of Business and Communication and the Language and General Studies unit. The conversation focused on potential collaboration in research, leadership, language and soft skills camps, academic conferences, and co-teaching of some General Education (GE) courses.
        It was a productive and inspiring exchange, laying the groundwork for meaningful academic partnerships in the future.
