Community-Based Coastal Fisheries Assessment and Sustainable Tourism Workshop
On June 9, 2025, Assistant Professor Dr. Rungruang Janta and the team from the School of Languages and General Education, Walailak University, conducted a hands–on training workshop titled “Coastal Fisheries Resource Assessment and Climate Change Impacts” at the Bang Phaeng Fishing Community in Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat.
The workshop aimed to enhance community understanding of coastal fisheries resources, climate change impacts, and sustainable fisheries management. The event highlighted strong community interest in preserving marine ecosystems and securing their livelihoods.
Key topics included fisheries survey techniques, ecosystem changes due to global warming, and practical approaches to sustainable fisheries. The workshop also explored how communities could integrate conservation efforts with eco–tourism development, such as coral reef diving, dolphin watching, and traditional fishing activities—turning local marine knowledge into sustainable tourism opportunities.
This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to community engagement and knowledge transfer, empowering local fishers to become active participants in conservation, while building resilience and promoting long–term sustainability of both fisheries and coastal tourism.
