SOLGEN Research Planning Workshop

Research Department at SOLGEN, organized a SOLGEN Research Planning workshop on May 29-31, 2024, at the Khanom Golden Beach Hotel, Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The workshop aimed to enhance research capabilities, covering topics such as formulating research questions, designing research methodologies, identifying subtopics for relevant research, and presenting research publication plans. Fifteen faculty members and researchers from the School of Languages and General Education participated in the workshop. Through this activity, participants were able to present their research topics and develop research plans, leading to faster publication of their research findings.

SOLGEN Conducted a Workshop on General Education Course Preparation for Academic Year 2024

The General Education Program, School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN), organized a workshop on the preparation of general education courses for the academic year 2024 on May 14, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in Rabiangbun 1, WU Library, Walailak University. The program emphasized the importance of instructional processes to achieve clear and comprehensive learning outcomes and focused on developing general education course instruction, considering learning objectives, instructional plans, teaching methods, and effective assessment criteria aligned with the learning outcomes of the general education category. Twenty-eight faculty members from the General Education Program participated in the workshop. They exchanged teaching techniques, assessment methods, and developed skill mapping for 21st-century skills in each course. As a result, the program is well-prepared for the new academic semester and has a more effective approach to instruction.

SOLGEN organized a singing and English game event.

SOLGEN organized a singing and English game event, led by members of the Solgen International Club. The event featured a stage for international singing performances and English games to encourage participants to express themselves and build confidence in using English through activities they enjoy or are interested in. The event took place on April 27, 2024, at the Night Food Center of Walailak University, with approximately 30 students participating. According to the satisfaction evaluation, participants expressed the highest level of satisfaction with the event.

SOLGEN organized a camping event for natural resource and environmental conservation for the 3rd semester of the academic year 2023

The General Education Program under the School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) organized a camping event focused on natural resource and environmental conservation for the 3rd semester of the academic year 2023. The event took place on March 24 and 31, 2024, at the Mu Ko Thale Tai National Park, Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Twenty-four students enrolled in the GED65-147 course, “Camping for the Conservation of Nature and Environment” participated in the event. The activity was honored by the participation of Mr. Nipon Chuthong, a local wisdom scholar, who shared his knowledge about the natural learning resources of the Mu Ko Thale Tai National Park. The event aimed to teach students how to live and work together in an outdoor setting, fostering resilience and perseverance amidst the challenges posed by the ongoing environmental crisis, particularly the degradation of marine environments. By experiencing life outdoors and recognizing the value of marine resource conservation, the students were encouraged to develop a lasting appreciation and commitment to preserving natural resources for future generations.

SOLGEN Hosts "Through the Lens: Selected Films for Understanding Gender and Social Diversity in the 21st Century"

The School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) hosted the event “Through the Lens: Selected Films for Understanding Gender and Social Diversity in the 21st Century.” The event featured the screening of the film Solids by the Seashore, held on March 25-26, 2024, at the Mini Theater, the Center for Library Resources and Education Media, Walailak University. Following the screening, there was a discussion with the film’s director, Patipan Bundrik, whose Thai film won an award at the 2023 Busan International Film Festival. Solids by the Seashore is Patipan Bundrik’s first feature film, telling the story of two characters who meet and develop a relationship in the southern region of Thailand. A notable aspect of this film is that the two main characters are both women, one of whom is a practicing Muslim, a rarity in the cinematic world. Students from the course GED65-122: Sexuality in Thailand in the film screening and had the opportunity to exchange and analyze different perspectives arising from the screenplay and the storytelling, as viewed through the lens of cinema. This experience fostered learning and awareness of diverse sexualities and ways of life.

SOLGEN Organizes Activities Using Games and Simulations to Create Mechanisms for Refusing Smoking and Drug Use Among Thai Youth

The School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) organized an activity using games and simulations to create mechanisms for refusing smoking and drug use among Thai youth. The event took place on February 23-24, 2024, at Ban Naithung School, Tha Sala Subdistrict, Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. 

The objective was to provide academic knowledge and activities to raise awareness among students about the dangers of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and drugs, as well as to prevent the emergence of new smokers within the school. Over 100 students from Ban Naithung School participated in the event, which was honored by the presence of Police Lieutenant Colonel Phasin Sangkhara, Commander of the Border Patrol Police Company, and a team of instructors from the Border Patrol Police Division, Srinakarin Camp, Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, who served as mentors and led educational and recreational activities for the students.

SOLGEN organized the event "SOLGEN idols 2: Be the Best U in the Universe"

The SOLGEN Student Club held the event “SOLGEN idols 2: Be the Best U in the Universe” on February 7, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sritammarat Room, Architecture and Design Building. The event provided a platform for students to showcase their talents, creativity, and leadership skills, serving as good role models and promoting the university’s image in various ways. It also encouraged students to demonstrate academic abilities that are expected at the higher education level.


The winner of SOLGEN idols 2: Be the Best U in the Universe was “Ms. Monsicha Wagatsuma” from the School of Allied Health Sciences, selected from a total of seven contestants from various faculties. This year, the seven students competed in the Speech and Keyword rounds to win cash prizes and the title of SOLGEN Idol of the Year 2024.


The awards were as follows:

Winner: Ms. Monsicha Wangassuma, School of Allied Health Sciences.

First Runner-Up: Mr. Watcharaphon Rukhachan, School of Allied Health Sciences.

Second Runner-Up: Mr. Wachirapan Kliangtip, School of Education and Liberal Arts.

Popular Vote and Consolation Prize: Mr. Aszan U-ma, School of Medicine.

Consolation Prizes: Mr. Napath Thongsuk, School of Engineering and Technology; Ms. Natcha Srisuwan, School of Engineering and Technology; and Mr. Jirawat Malee, School of Medicine.

This event was open to all students regardless of gender identity, allowing those who wished to express their opinions to participate. The club provided training for the seven contestants by faculty members in areas such as language use, personality development, and self-esteem, helping them apply the knowledge gained from general education courses after graduation.

SOLGEN Organizes a Personality Development Event "Good Speaking and Good Personality for Success"

SOLGEN Student Club, organized a personality development event titled “Good Speaking and Good Personality for Success” on February 5, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Srithammarat Meeting Room, Architecture and Design Building, Walailak University. The event was honored by guest speakers, Mr. Thongchai Promjan and Ms. Nuchanart Rodsaaad from the School of Education and Liberal Arts, who conducted the workshop.

The event received positive feedback, particularly in terms of knowledge gained on self-development in speaking and personality. Participants appreciated the practical applications for preparing themselves for the workforce or cooperative education, with evaluations showing the highest level of satisfaction.

SOLGEN Planted Mangrove Forests to Restore the Land and Raise Environmental Awareness

The School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) at Walailak University organized a mangrove planting project to restore the land and raise environmental awareness on Saturday, January 27, 2023, at Ban Sabau in Thasala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The project was presided over by Professor Dr. Snit Aksorakul, President of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB). A total of 60 participants joined the project, including students, staff, and students from Chulabhorn Royal Academy Nakhon Si Thammarat School of Science.

The objectives of the project were to raise environmental awareness, support community development activities, and promote local fishing culture through mangrove planting with the community. The project also aligns with the University of Walailak’s Green University Project and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 14 (Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development) and 15 (Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems).

SOLGEN hopes to be a part of the development of the mangrove area to ensure its sustainability and provide both direct and indirect benefits to the local community.

The Solgen International Club is hosting the SOLGEN Chatterbox Cafe event from January 8-25, 2024, at the Phapasan Room, Academic Building 5, Walailak University. 

The event provides students with the opportunity to meet and communicate with foreign lecturers, enhance their English communication skills for daily life, and promote cultural exchange. A large number of students are interested in joining the conversations and exchanging experiences with the foreign lecturers. The SOLGEN Chatterbox Cafe adds a lively atmosphere to the School of Languages and General Education throughout January. Students eagerly participate in one-on-one conversations with the lecturers in a friendly environment, akin to chatting with international friends. The event not only helps improve language skills but also offers students a chance to learn about diverse cultures and broaden their horizons.
