SOLGEN Hosts "Through the Lens: Selected Films for Understanding Gender and Social Diversity in the 21st Century"
The School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) hosted the event “Through the Lens: Selected Films for Understanding Gender and Social Diversity in the 21st Century.” The event featured the screening of the film Solids by the Seashore, held on March 25-26, 2024, at the Mini Theater, the Center for Library Resources and Education Media, Walailak University. Following the screening, there was a discussion with the film’s director, Patipan Bundrik, whose Thai film won an award at the 2023 Busan International Film Festival. Solids by the Seashore is Patipan Bundrik’s first feature film, telling the story of two characters who meet and develop a relationship in the southern region of Thailand. A notable aspect of this film is that the two main characters are both women, one of whom is a practicing Muslim, a rarity in the cinematic world. Students from the course GED65-122: Sexuality in Thailand in the film screening and had the opportunity to exchange and analyze different perspectives arising from the screenplay and the storytelling, as viewed through the lens of cinema. This experience fostered learning and awareness of diverse sexualities and ways of life.
