GEN67-123 English Reading and Writing for Basic Users
Course Description
This course is a complementary course for the students in A2 level (Basic Users). It is designed to develop students’ reading and writing skills through a variety of interactive and engaging exercises and activities. Its emphasis is on text-based, theme-based reading and writing tasks. Moreover, it integrates mechanics of effective writing, and oral reading to enhance students’ pronunciation. It also guides students through the reading and writing process, which requires critical thinking and decision-making for writing effective paragraphs and essays.
The Languages Department also employs a team teaching approach, with course coordinators responsible for coordinating with lecturers throughout the processes of course development, lesson planning, teaching delivery, and assessment. Classes are conducted in small groups of approximately 25 students. Each group applies the same teaching tools, assessment criteria, and instructional methods to maintain consistency. Storytelling is integrated into teaching to stimulate imagination and creativity while connecting to students’ real-life experiences. This approach enhances classroom participation, creates an enjoyable and positive attitude toward language learning, and builds a strong foundation in language, including grammar, vocabulary, and other English language skills.
