On Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) at Walailak University successfully hosted a hands-on workshop titled “The Art and Science of Coffee Aroma and Flavor: Unlocking the World of Robusta Coffee.” The event took place at WEDA Café, located in the Science and Technology Park Building, Walailak University.
Bridging Theory and Practice through Experiential Learning
Driven by the concept of experiential learning, the workshop provided students, staff, and general coffee enthusiasts with a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical training. The primary objective was to deepen understanding of Robusta coffee, a vital economic crop of Southern Thailand, by integrating scientific principles, sensory arts, and international coffee cupping standards.
Throughout the day-long event, participants explored:
The immense potential of Robusta coffee.
Emerging market trends for Fine Robusta (specialty Robusta).
Practical training in identifying coffee aromas.
International standard Robusta coffee cupping procedures.
The intensive sessions were led by Mr. Thanawat Saelin (Ajarn Pipe), a certified Q Robusta Grader & Instructor, alongside assistant instructor Ms. Som. Together, they delivered an engaging and inspiring learning experience that left a lasting impression on everyone involved.
