SOLGEN Planted Mangrove Forests to Restore the Land and Raise Environmental Awareness

The School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) at Walailak University organized a mangrove planting project to restore the land and raise environmental awareness on Saturday, January 27, 2023, at Ban Sabau in Thasala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The project was presided over by Professor Dr. Snit Aksorakul, President of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB). A total of 60 participants joined the project, including students, staff, and students from Chulabhorn Royal Academy Nakhon Si Thammarat School of Science.

The objectives of the project were to raise environmental awareness, support community development activities, and promote local fishing culture through mangrove planting with the community. The project also aligns with the University of Walailak’s Green University Project and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 14 (Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development) and 15 (Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems).

SOLGEN hopes to be a part of the development of the mangrove area to ensure its sustainability and provide both direct and indirect benefits to the local community.
