On September 28, the School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) at Walailak University, in collaboration with the Center of Excellence on Women and Social Security (CEWSS), the Center of Excellence for Sustainable Disaster Management, and the Research Center for Teaching and Learning, co-hosted an international workshop titled “From Research Initiation and Practice to Manuscript and Grant Writing: An Integrated Approach” at Walailak University.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Asst. Prof. Dr. Taweeluk Polrachom, Head of the Center of Excellence on Women and Social Security and Head of the General Education Department, who delivered the opening remarks. Assoc. The workshop was deeply honored to feature Professor Emeritus Dr. Geoffrey A. Cordell from the University of Illinois and Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida, USA, as the keynote speaker. A globally recognized pioneer in pharmacognosy, natural products chemistry, and drug discovery—with more than 640 scientific publications—Professor Cordell shared his vast expertise and practical insights throughout the day.
The intensive program covered the full research cycle across four key sessions:
1 Research Initiation, Ethics, and Good Research Practice: Formulating significant and impactful research questions, research integrity, and good practices in planning and conducting research.
2 From Research Ideas to Competitive Grant Proposals: Strategic approaches to bridging research gaps, methodology, and societal impact into highly competitive funding applications.
3 From Research Findings to High-Impact Manuscripts: Effective data interpretation, scientific storytelling, manuscript structuring, and selecting reputable international journals for publication.
4 Interactive Discussion and Research Case Studies: In-depth discussions on case studies, publication ethics, addressing reviewer comments, and the responsible use of AI in academic research and writing.
This workshop represents an integrated effort to elevate academic and research capabilities, strengthen researcher networks, and drive Walailak University’s research outcomes toward creating sustainable and high-impact international contributions
