Universiti Sains Malaysia (SOLLAT, USM)
SOLGEN engaged in discussions with SOLLAT, Universiti Sains Malaysia, to foster collaboration in teaching and learning, student affairs, and research. The cooperation will particularly focus on faculty and student exchanges, the organization of language skill development activities, and the support for publishing research in international academic journals.
Collaboration in Teaching and Learning
- Staff Mobility Discussions focused on the exchange of lecturers between the two schools for joint teaching, as well as the development of co-created online courses. SOLLAT currently offers instruction in several foreign languages, including English, Thai, and Spanish. However, there is only one Thai language lecturer, whose teaching load is already full. Faculty exchange would therefore help expand opportunities for offering more Thai language courses. The exchange period must be at least 14 days and conducted onsite.
- Student Mobility Discussions also covered sending students for internships in English language teaching. SOLLAT expressed support and willingness to send students to undertake internships at SOLGEN.
Collaboration on Student Affairs
SOLLAT has planned to organize activities to enhance English language skills for Walailak University students. In September 2024, SOLGEN will bring a group of students to Penang for English practice and has requested SOLLAT’s collaboration in arranging student buddies to participate in the activities.
Research Collaboration
SOLGEN expressed its readiness to engage in joint research initiatives and encouraged its faculty members to contact their counterparts at SOLLAT via email. In addition, SOLLAT introduced the International Journal of Languages, Literature and Translation (IJOLLT), which is currently in the process of SCOPUS indexing, as a potential publication outlet for researchers. Moreover, SOLLAT recommended the Center of Excellence in Feminize at USM to Associate Professor Dr. Taweelak Polrach, providing an opportunity to further explore and access relevant information through its official website.
This collaboration represents a significant step in strengthening the academic network between the two institutions, with a shared commitment to enhancing educational and research capacity for sustainable development.
