SOLGEN organizes a project to preserve Thai language

Due to National Thai Language Day 2023 (29th of July, every year). Art and Cultural Team School of Language and General Education organized the project event “SOLGENรู้รักษ์ภาษาไทย” This aim for young generation use Thai language correctly, while preserve Thai language and culture as effort to uphold the valuable heritage of Thai arts and culture for future generation. This campaign for student who create slogan or caption under the heading “Advocating for Correct Usage of the Thai Language Among the Younger Generation”. With photo reflex to caption via Facebook as publish post with hashtag #SOLGENรู้รักษ์ภาษาไทย. And also compete for 3 prizes, totaling 800 Baht, along with earning 3 points for good conduct.
The campaign had productive feedback by students from various school which is 147 achievements. The award results are as follows
1. The winner, receiving a cash prize of 500 Baht, is Miss Nattakorn Darapheung, student ID 63113849, from the School of liberal Arts, Thai Language program.”
2. The first runner-up, receiving a cash prize of 200 Baht, is Miss Jiratchaya Sunthornnont, student ID 66125675, from the School of Accountancy and Finance, Accounting program.
3. The second runner-up, receiving a cash prize of 100 Baht, is Mr. Phattharapon Sakol, student ID 63107759, from the Faculty of Pharmacy.

SOLGEN organized Online exchanging perspective: Sharing experience of Studying in the UK and Japan

On June 30, 2023, the School of Languages and General Education organized an event titled “Online Exchanging Perspective: Sharing Experience of Studying in the UK and Japan.” This event featured a special lecture on the experiences of studying English and living in the United States and Japan. The guest speaker for this event was Aj. Suthai Ketma, a faculty member from the Languages Department, School of Languages and General Education. The lecture was conducted online via the Zoom platform, and approximately 20 students participated in the event.
The evaluation results from the participants showed that they were highly satisfied with the program, with an average satisfaction rating of 4.50, indicating a very high level of satisfaction.

SOLGEN organized sports competitions

On Thursday, June 8, 2023, the School of Languages and General Education (SOLGEN) organized a badminton competition and folk games between lecturers from the Languages Department and lecturers of General education Department. This is such a good opportunity to get to know and build relationships between the lecturers in both departments. They also had fun together with both Thai and foreign lecturers allowing foreign teachers to learn Thai folk games which is a Thai culture that has existed since ancient times gathered together to get to know more lecturers form different countries. After that, they had dinner together at WEDA CAFE.

Congratulations to Dr. Fonthip Makkliang, a lecturer of General Education Department for being appointed as an “Assistant Professor” in the field of Analytical Chemistry.

SOLGEN launched historical study project of Krung Ching community

On Friday, May 12, 2023, from 13:00 to 16:00, the Office of School of Languages and General Education, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vitaya Aphorn, organized a meeting involving relevant parties to gather ideas for the implementation of the “Community History Study Project of Kruengching for Sustainable Community Development.” The meeting took place at the Kruengching Subdistrict Administrative Organization building in Nopphitam District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Participants included the head of the Kruengching Subdistrict Administrative Organization, the president of the tie-dye cloth group, the owner of the Jang Lon Tourism Site, members of the Khao Leum Tourism Promotion Group, fruit buyers, local durian farmers, tourism operators, community-based researchers, and students from Walailak University, totaling 18 individuals.

The meeting began with a welcoming address from Mr. Jarin Janchum, the head of the Kruengching Subdistrict Administrative Organization. Subsequently, opinions and recommendations were gathered from the participants regarding the overall project, including its strengths, weaknesses, the future operational framework, and the communication channels for research.

It should be noted that the “Community History Study Project of Kruengching for Sustainable Community Development” is a research project supported by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). Walailak University conducted research in the Kruengching Subdistrict, Nopphitam District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The research team consisted of faculty members from the School of Languages and General Education, the School of Informatics, and the School of Management, in collaboration with the Center for Excellence in Women and Social Security, as well as community-based researchers. The project was carried out from April 2566 to April 2024.

SOLGEN joined Songkran Festival 2023

On April 10, 2023, at Academic Building 5, representatives from the faculty administration and teachers, both Thai and international, of the School of Languages and General Education, gathered to pay their respects and pour water over the hands of the Dean of the School, Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, as part of the Songkran Festival celebration for the year 2023. This event took place amidst a joyful atmosphere.

Following this, faculty representatives participated in the cultural preservation activity of “Walailak Songkran Tradition” for the year 2023 at the Architecture and Design Building, organized by the Cultural and Sports Promotion Center in collaboration with the University’s Academic and Community Service Center. Within the event, there was a ceremony to pour water over Buddha images, a traditional act to invoke blessings. Additionally, various organizations provided Thai snacks to those attending the event.

Tutoring Activities of General Education Courses 3/2022

General Education Department Organized tutoring activities of term 3/2022 for students studying in general education courses. In online tutoring before the midterm exam during 14-21 February 2023 and before the final exam during 21 March – 5  April 2023 via the Facebook page “SOLGEN ติวต่อเติมแต้ม” for all 7 subjects as follows:

1. Thai for Contemporary Communication
2. Communication Techniques in Contemporary World
3. Thai Civilization and Global Citizen
4. Philosophy, Ethics and Critical Thinking
5. Knowledge Inquiry and Research Methods
6. Environmental Conservation and Global Warming
7. Innovation and Entrepreneurship

There were students attending the tutoring activities. Total of more than 2,000 students in all subjects and the satisfaction assessment of students in the tutoring was very good. (Evaluation score is more than 4.55)
